Ecoceleium creates environmentally sustainable packaging for shipping. This is done through replacing regular plastics like Polystyren with Mycelium, a low cost, eco-friendly substitute. The environmentally friendly packaging is made from mushroom roots.
What we do?
We create eco-friendly packaging materials and packaging for food and beverages. Eventually we want to expand our company to create molds for other products such as house insulation, household products, and containers.
How we do it?
We start with a small portion of mushroom roots also known as mycelium and place it into a mold shaped to the product we intend to grow. Next we place the substrate of choice which would be wood chips or bird feed, then we place the molds into a cold dark room and allow nature to take its course. In just a few days the mycelium we consume all of the substrate and you will be left with a mushroom root mold of your intended product. Lastly we take the full grown roots and place them into a drying chamber for another day or so depending on the size. After removal your packaging material is ready to contain whatever product you intend. In order to contain beverages we use a thin coating that will keep water and other liquids inside of our product.
Why we do it?
There is a need for biodegradable materials for shipping and serving that we feel nobody will do unless we make it attractive and sustainable. We intend to reduce pollution, reduce greenhouse gases, and save the environment. We intend to be sustainable in that our business can thrive while making little waste and of that waste the majority will be non-volatile for the environment. Our product is impact absorbent, water absorbent (without a coating), vapor retardant, flame retardant, variable density, dielectric, buoyant and several other benefits.
